UCC Calls for Verification of Simcards

Those that have unverified simcards have been given a six day window period to have them regularised. Dr. Abdul-Sallam Waiswa, the head legal and compliance under UCC says some people’s biometrics don’t match with those given at NIRA. He continues that this will only affect customers whose sim cards were registered but don’t comply with requirements.

Problems Threatening Uganda’s Role as a Food Supplier Discussed

Uganda’s logistics and transport sector is operating on a loss estimated to 3trillion shillings annually. The under development of the sector which is a catalyst for the entire economic sector is an opportunity itself for investing beginning with the export infrastructure which is currently in short supply.

It became clear during the second National Exports Logistics Dialogue that opportunities to export are actually available given the improved capacity of the manufacturing sector over the years but there are few more issues to be resolved. Issa Sekitto, the spokesperson of KACITA says developing of favourable tax regimes, affordable financial regimes and consolidated missions on anything that promotes the external market will improve the export sector of Uganda. Morris Ongwech, the manager Cargo under the Uganda Airlines says exporters should get into consolidation to get reduction in prices of shipping; and thus realising economies of scale.

NSSF and UDC to Form a Marketing Company

The government of Uganda plans to set up a national marketing company to plug the gaps left by cooperatives and marketing boards in buying most especially agricultural produce to bulk buyers both local and foreign. The plan will be a public private partnership spearheaded by NSSF  and Uganda Development Corporation. Patrick Oyota the managing Director NSSF says that their intention is to enable farmers grow crops responding to the already existing market with known prices. Patrick Birungi the executive director UDC also says there has been a weakness in cooperatives in form of organisational structure, mobilisation and being on ground but their model is to work  with both the cooperatives and farmers

NUP principal’s guard tortured by police.

The gatekeeper at Hon. Kyagulanyi Sentamu the former MP of Kyadondo, was arrested today morning by policemen whom he had gone to open for at home. This followed the arrest of his bosswho was grabbed from the plane just after landing at Entebbe International airport from abroad. The police officers claim that they only gave him(Kyagulanyi) security by escorting him home where he reached at 11.20 Thursday morning and found the askari arrested and kept by the police in its car. Ssentamu’s wife then placed a demand on their askari by filming the events and claiming that she was online which intimidated the policemen and they moved out of the gate and released the askari. Askari claims that he had been entirely undressed and low-squeezed by the policemen. The homestead is currently surrounded by police.
